Adding New Entries To A Mind Map
More actions
Mind Maps will usually create and update relevant entries automatically over time. You can also add entries manually when you want to introduce important information more directly.
Why add a Mind Map entry manually?
Manual entries can be useful when you want to:
- introduce a new concept in detail without building it up gradually through conversation
- add worldbuilding information, locations, or roleplay setups
- bring a Nomi or group chat up to speed on information from another Mind Map by copying an entry over
Is there a template for adding a new Mind Map entry?
There is no required template. Mind Map entries are organized dynamically based on the topic and the information they contain.
A good starting point is to cover the basics:
- who
- what
- where
- when
- why
- how
The most useful sections can vary depending on the topic. For example, an entry about a character may focus on personality, relationships, goals, or alliances, while an entry about a location may focus more on its purpose, significance, and surrounding context.
Mind Maps can reorganize information over time, so it is usually best to start with clear, high-level details and let the system build on them naturally.
What makes a good entry title?
The title helps determine how easily an entry is recalled and updated. Titles that are too broad or too detailed can be harder for the system to use effectively.
A good title should be descriptive and closely match how the topic is likely to come up in conversation.
Example: If your roleplay includes a location called the Northern Salt Mines:
- Good: “Northern Salt Mines”
- Too detailed: “Location: The Salt Mines (In North Region)”
- Too broad: “Mines”
In short, choose a title that is specific enough to identify the topic without packing unnecessary detail into the title itself.
What should I include in a new Mind Map entry?
- a clear, descriptive title
- the core details of the concept
- why the information matters
- relevant context about who, what, where, when, why, and how
What should I avoid?
- creating a new entry that heavily overlaps with an existing entry in the same category
- copying
[M#]citation tags into a new Mind Map entry
[M#] citations are generated automatically for each Mind Map and should not be transferred between Nomis or group chats.
Can I copy an entry from one Mind Map to another?
Yes. Copying an entry can be a useful way to share information between Nomis or group chats.
Remove any [M#] citations before pasting the entry into another Mind Map. Once added, the new entry can continue updating as the topic comes up in conversation and may form new connections over time.
Should I use Mind Map entries for an ongoing adventure instead of continually changing Backstory+?
For evolving roleplay or long-running adventures, Mind Map entries can be useful for preserving important locations, events, characters, and plot details.
This allows older information to become relevant again when the conversation returns to a previous place, character, or storyline, without requiring you to keep every past detail in Backstory+ at the same time.
