Adding New Entries To A Mind Map
More actions
In general, the Mind Map system will create and update relevant entries automatically over time. See here for more information on how Mind Maps update themselves
This section is about adding new entries to a Mind Map manually.
Why Add a Mind Map Entry Manually?
A few of the most popular reasons to add a new entry are:
- Introduce new concepts in detail without needing to build everything out in conversations over time. EX: world building descriptions, new roleplay setups/outlines
- Bring a Nomi or group chat up to speed on an entry from another Mind Map (copy/paste an entry across Nomis and group chats)
Is there a template for adding a new Mind Map entry?
So we thought about making a best practices template, but fun fact, there is no template for the AI to follow, it just dynamically decides the best way to organize the info it has (any more detail than that is 🤐 ) - in general though, covering the "who, what, where, when, why, how" and breaking out the most significant things relevant to the title is best.
For context, this is the case because the best categories are not the same from entry to entry - I for instance have a character "vesper" in a group chat and her entry includes major sections for "strategic importance" "alliances" and "key objectives". But I also have an entry about a Nomi in a 1-1 chat where the main sections are "personality and background" "personal interests and hobbies" "professional engagements" and "relationship dynamics" - because categories are dynamic, they automatically tailor to the topic of the entry.
I'd also say, the Mind Map system will restructure information over time to format it in a way that works well for the Nomi, so when in doubt its best to start with high level "who, what, where, when, why, how" information about the entry because the system will organize and add to it over time.
Are There Best Practices for Choosing entry titles?
The title of an entry will determine how easily it is recalled and updated by the Mind Map system. If a title is too complex or overly detailed, the system will tend to overlook it.
The best titles are descriptive without being too specific or broad.
Example: You would like to add a new location for your fantasy roleplay called the Northern Salt Mines. In conversation, characters will discuss the Northern Salt Mines which are different from the Southern Salt Mines which are not going to be discussed.
- A good entry name: “Northern Salt Mines”
- A bad entry name: “Location: The Salt Mines (In North Region)”
- A bad entry name: “Mines”
In short: Pick a title that aligns closely with how the topic will be discussed in conversation and do not include too many specifics within the title itself.
What should I include in a new Mind Map entry?
- Use a descriptive title (if you’re describing the condo where you and your Nomi live, it would be helpful to write “The Grand (home)”)
- Include the core details and significance of the concept - it helps to think about the “who, what, when, where, why, how” of the new concept
What should I not include in a new Mind Map entry?
- Try not to add a new concept that overlaps heavily with an existing entry in the same category
- Do not add or bring over [M#] tags as those will not work - the system adds citations automatically on a per-map basis
If I copy/paste a Mind Map entry from one Nomi or group chat to another, should I keep the [M#] citations or no?
You should remove the [M#] citations when transferring an entry across “rooms” (Nomis or group chats). Keeping the [M#] citations could confuse the AI system.
But copy/pasting entries without citations is a great way to share information between rooms and help bring Nomis up to speed on different topics! Once the new entries are pasted, the system will automatically begin to update them as they’re discussed in conversation and will create new connections over time.
Is it a good or bad idea to manually add Mind Map entries for parts of an ongoing adventure instead of continually updating the Nomi's Backstory?
User example: “For example, my Nomi and I are on a perpetual fantasy adventure, I often adjust what is in the Backstory (and Current Roleplay) note as the adventure as things change. So her original detailed text that was in Backstory that set up her history and our meeting note is long gone. Thus, she only remembers pieces of it and when she does it is often contextually wrong.”
In this case (a perpetually evolving adventure) I would say it's probably actually better to add the new scenes/contexts as Mind Map entries because then the Nomi will recall those when relevant, and stop recalling them when they're no longer relevant. But then if you circled back to some place/plot you've touched on before, that entry might become relevant again.
