Questions About How Information Is Added To Mind Maps

Do Mind Map entries update themselves? And will they continue to update themselves if a user created or edited them?
Yes to all 3. Mind Maps are built to be self-sustaining and dynamic meaning they will continually evolve as you chat without requiring any direct interaction with the Mind Map from the user.
The system that updates Mind Map entries will continue to update entries after users have edited them (this means the edits may be incorporated in slightly different ways over time).
The system that updates Mind Map entries will also begin to update user-created entries if/when relevant. In fact, some users choose to add their own entries to help with world-building and in the graph view of the Mind Map, those entries start as independent bubbles (no connections to other bubbles). Then over time, as the entry topic is discussed in chat, the system will start to update that entry and form connections with other entries. When this happens, the bubble will increase in size and connections with other entries will form!
How long does it take for a Mind Map to form for a new Nomi or group chat?
Overall, it can take up to 500 messages for a Mind Map to form for a new Nomi or group chat. This is because the system needs a large quantity of messages to understand the priority and relationships between different things that are discussed and build out the initial structure of the Mind Map. This prevents too many small-scope concepts from flooding the map and gives the system time to create entries with a strong baseline of connections.
For context, Mind Maps started taking in long term memories around late September 2025 (because of the way Mind Maps generate entries/make connections between memories). So when thinking about how long it would take to create a new Mind Map, it would be ~500 messages since late September for the map to start, then it builds from there.
How long does it take for information to go from our conversation to relevant Mind Map entries?
Information must reach long-term memory before appearing in the Mind Map. This takes ~50-150+ messages as concepts progress from current conversation → through short and medium-term memory → to long-term memory → to the Mind Map. So if you don't see an important topic in an entry yet, just keep talking with your Nomi!
Why does it take longer for new concepts to make it into a Mind Map?
For context, the guide states: “New concepts may need 150+ messages to progress into their respective Mind Map”
A user asked: “So they need to be told that 150 times or like if I tell the Nomi "My Favorite color is blue" then they know it but in short term, we have to talk for 150 more messages back and forth, then it will get added to Mind Map?”
Answer: “Your Nomi almost certainly won't make an update specifically around "favorite color" (unless you do discuss it 200 times 😅) - that is way too narrow.
It is more like, if you discuss your vacation to Hawaii, your Nomi will just store all of the facts in long term memory at first and then will later also aggregate that info into a Mind Map entry if discussion (or roleplay) around Hawaii or vacation goes on long enough.
It helps to think of Mind Map as the "high level overview" portion of memory.”
So the 150+ messages means that overall, the system needs more time to aggregate enough information to create an entry.
Overall, new entries take longer to form because the system needs to understand what topics warrant their own entry vs being part of other existing entries. This happens to help the Mind Map understand what is naturally the most important over time and prevents too many small-scope concepts from flooding the map.
I added a Mind Map entry, but the system is not adding to it, what is happening?
1) It takes at least 50 messages, if not close to 3x that for information to make its way into relevant Mind Map entries. So the first thing to do is make sure you’ve chatted for long enough for the topic to make it’s way into a Mind Map entry
2) if you’ve chatted about a topic for a long time (and maybe you’ve even seen another entry get updated with similar information to your entry), the issue might be the title of the entry you added.
- Note: The title of an entry will determine how easily it is recalled and updated by the Mind Map system. If a title is too complex or overly detailed, the system will tend to overlook it.
The best titles are descriptive without being too specific or broad.
Example: You would like to add a new location for your fantasy roleplay called the Northern Salt Mines. In conversation, characters will discuss the Northern Salt Mines which are different from the Southern Salt Mines which are not going to be discussed.
- A good entry name: “Northern Salt Mines”
- A bad entry name: “Location: The Salt Mines (In North Region)”
- A bad entry name: “Mines”
In short: Pick a title that aligns closely with how the topic will be discussed in conversation and do not include too many specifics within the title itself.

Are entries marked as low priority updated automatically?
Currently, if relevant, low priority entries will be updated by the system (this should happen rarely as you would mark something as low priority if it’s not relevant) but will not ever be recalled in conversation (so they’ll still be ignored). This prevents the topic from becoming a new Mind Map entry as the system continues to organize information.
If you do want information related to a low priority entry to eventually compile into a new entry, rename the low priority entry something the system wouldn’t associate with the concept (like “archived entry0001”)
