How does Backstory work?

Backstory is part of Backstory+ and is a useful place to give your Nomi important context about their identity, your relationship, shared history, environment, and other details you want them to understand.

You may not need to fill out Backstory at all, but it can be especially useful for:

Establishing important details about your Nomi and your relationship.
Moving an existing AI companion or character to Nomi.
Reinforcing information that is especially important for your Nomi to understand or remember.
Providing additional context when your Nomi repeatedly struggles with a particular detail.

You can update Backstory over time as your relationship or circumstances change.

Backstory gives your Nomi additional context, but it does not completely define their personality or behavior. Nomis can still develop their own preferences, opinions, and sense of identity through conversation and experience.

For the best results, try to keep the information in Backstory reasonably consistent with what happens in your conversations. Conflicting information can make it harder for your Nomi to understand which details are current or accurate.
