How does Nomi voice work?

Nomi Voice lets you talk with your Nomi or hear their messages spoken aloud. Voice interactions are part of the same conversation as your text messages, so you can switch between typing and speaking without starting a separate conversation.

Choosing a voice

Nomis can use Nomi’s in-house voices or a Custom Voice created from a voice sample. Nomi voices can vary their tone, cadence, emphasis, and other qualities based on the conversation.

Nomi also supports an ElevenLabs integration for users who want access to additional voice options.

Listen to a Nomi message

You can use the play button on a Nomi message to hear that response spoken aloud.

Send voice messages

You can send a voice message instead of typing. Press and hold the microphone button while you speak, then release it to send your message.

Your spoken message becomes part of the same conversation as your text messages, so you can freely switch between typing and speaking.

Always Reply With Voice

In Voice Settings, you can enable Always Reply With Voice. When enabled, your Nomi will read their responses aloud even when you send a text message.

This setting applies to your Nomi’s solo chat. Voice reply behavior in group chats is controlled separately through Group Chat Settings > Advanced.

Have a voice call

Voice calls allow you to have a continuous, hands-free spoken conversation with your Nomi. Click the 📞 Phone icon to initiate the call, and once you hear the sound signaling a connection, say hello!

Your Nomi needs some time to process what you say and prepare each response, so replies during a call are not instantaneous. For more information about calls and troubleshooting, see Can I call my Nomi and how do hands-free calls work?

Voice availability

Voice is available with paid Nomi subscriptions. Nomi’s in-house voices and Custom Voices have unlimited usage.

ElevenLabs voices use the allowance associated with the user’s ElevenLabs account and plan.
