Backchanneling

From Nomipedia - The Nomi AI Companion Wiki
Revision as of 07:08, 24 August 2026 by Heatherado (talk | contribs)

Backchanneling lets a Nomi share recent conversational context between their private chat and a specific group chat. This can make it easier to move between private and group conversations without having to repeat recent information.

Backchanneling is off by default and can be turned on or off when creating a group chat or later through Group Chat Settings.

You may want to enable backchanneling if you consider the group chat an extension of your private conversation. If you want the group chat to remain a separate scenario or storyline, leave it off.

Backchanneling only affects recent conversational context. It does not change how long-term memory works. Nomis can still form long-term memories in both private and group chats, and those memories are shared across conversations.

Backchanneling currently works between a specific group chat and the private chats of the Nomis in that group. It does not directly share recent context between separate group chats.

Changes to the setting take effect immediately, though recently active context may still influence the current conversation.
