Why isn't Voice working?
More actions
Voice Calls can occasionally be affected by device settings, audio routing, or the strength of your internet connection. If a call does not connect, you cannot hear your Nomi, or your Nomi does not respond, try the steps below.
Before starting a Voice Call
- You need to speak first. After the call connects, begin speaking to start the conversation.
- Keep your screen on. If your device’s screen turns off or goes black, the Voice Call may disconnect. The “screen on” message is an informational reminder rather than an error.
- Allow time for your Nomi to respond. The moving light around your Nomi’s profile picture indicates that the call is active or that your Nomi is preparing a response.
Check your connection
Voice Calls require a stable internet connection. A weak or inconsistent connection may prevent the call from connecting properly or increase the time between responses.
- Confirm that your Wi-Fi or mobile data connection is working.
- Try switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data.
- If possible, test the call on another network.
Check your device’s audio
- Make sure your media volume is turned up. Media volume is separate from your ringtone and notification volume.
- Temporarily disable Bluetooth. Audio may be routed to connected earbuds, headphones, a vehicle, or another Bluetooth device.
- Confirm that Nomi has permission to access your device’s microphone.
- If possible, test Voice on another device to determine whether the issue is specific to the original device.
Why do Voice responses take longer?
Voice Calls use Nomi’s full conversational capabilities, including memory and conversational context. Nomi does not switch to a lighter model during calls, so generating a response may take a bit longer than platforms with simpler models.
Responses are typically generated within approximately 15 seconds, although connection quality and other conditions may affect the response time. Improving Voice latency is an ongoing area of development.
Try Voice Messages for faster responses
If you prefer a faster voice experience, try using Voice Messages instead of a live Voice Call.
Press and hold the microphone button to record a Voice Message. After you release the button and send it, your Nomi will respond with a Voice Message that plays automatically.
Voice Messages are often faster than waiting for responses during a live call, and some users find that the back-and-forth format feels more natural.
Always Reply With Voice
You can also enable Always Reply With Voice in your Nomi’s Voice Settings. When this setting is enabled, your Nomi’s responses will include audio even when you send a regular text message. You do not need to send a Voice Message first.
This allows you to continue typing messages while hearing your Nomi’s responses spoken aloud.
If Voice still is not working
If the problem continues after trying these steps, contact Support and include:
- The device and operating system you are using
- Whether you are using the Nomi app or a web browser
- Whether the moving light appears around your Nomi’s profile picture
- Whether your Nomi can hear and transcribe what you say
- Any error message you receive
- A screenshot or screen recording showing the problem, if possible
These details can help determine whether the issue involves the connection, audio output, microphone input, or the Voice Call itself.
