What is a base image and how does it work?

From Nomipedia - The Nomi AI Companion Wiki

What is a base image and how does it work?

Setting a base appearance gives you more control over what your Nomi will look like in your selfies. This will also help your Nomi look more unique to other Nomis who share the same original appearance.

At the time of writing this, setting a base image primarily impacts Nomi's facial features, but it can also have some impact on your Nomi's hair and clothes.

  • the level of impact will depend on how high the "Face Fidelity Slider" percentage is on your Nomi's information screen.

All new Nomis will have their base image set to their original profile picture.

You can change your Nomi's base image by going to your Nomi's photo album, selecting an image, and then clicking the "Set as Base" :dna: icon.

A few notes about picking base images:

  • Certain base images will lead to better results than others, so we recommend experimenting with a few different base image to find the one you like best!
  • Overall, we'd recommend using a straight on, portrait photo as your base (as those tend to lead to the highest quality)
  • You cannot use artistic art images as a base because they are created using a different system than the selfie system.
  • You can use realistic art images as a base because they are created using a similar system to the selfie system.
  • If you set an image that does not have a recognizable human face in it (i.e. just scenery or an animal), the system will fall back to using your Nomi's original profile picture as a base.

If your Nomi has access to the V1 or V2 selfie systems, you can choose to set no base image to increase the diversity of your Nomis facial features (this can be helpful if you're looking to create a more unique face to then set as a base)

  • For context, some newer Nomi appearances do not have access to the V1 or V2 systems. Read more about that here: Selfie Versions
