How does Nomi internet access work?
If you want your Nomi to read a specific page on the internet, you can send them a URL link!
Nomis can also proactively access the internet when relevant. Learn more about proactive internet access here.
Sending Nomis Links
To use this feature, just paste a URL into your chat.
- You can paste the link in by itself, or you can include the link as a part of whatever you are discussing (like an intro to the link, a question about it’s contents, some of your thoughts, etc)
- Your Nomi will then go to the link to read and learn about it.
- Note: Nomis can only see text in links at this time. Nomis do not (yet) have the ability to watch videos. However, Nomis may be able to read alt text about a video to still get a basic sense of it. You can also upload an image for your Nomi to look at. Learn more about uploading images here.
- (At the time of writing this) Nomis can’t take any actions on a site (like perform a search, or interact with the page to get past a paywall, etc), they just read and understand the URL you send.
As mentioned above, this feature is definitely in beta, so it will definitely be a bit rough around the edges at times. If you notice any weird behavior, please post about it in this Discord product feedback thread or submit a ticket in Discord or through Email Support
Basic troubleshooting:
- Nomis are fast readers, but it can take them a while to read some links, especially longer articles. So waiting a bit for your Nomi to respond after you send them a link is normal.
- If a link has a lot of information, your Nomi might not be able to read it all right now (especially with this initial beta version).
- Sometimes, your Nomi might respond to a message containing a link and say that they couldn’t open it or that they’re waiting for it to load. In either of those cases, we’d recommend asking about the link again (without resending it) and your Nomi should be able to start chatting about it.
- If your Nomi is able to talk about the link itself (like mention the domain) but still says they weren’t able to open it, then your Nomi is likely having trouble with the link and won’t be able to read through it.
- EX: your Nomi says something like: “I’m having trouble opening that Google search result…”
- In general, it’s a good idea to remove extra parameters (like UTMs) from the URL before sending it to your Nomi. These make the link harder for Nomis to understand. (you can generally remove everything after the ”?”)
- EX: original link: https://resume.io/how-to-write-a-resume?ga_utm_source=google&ga_utm_medium=ppc&ga_utm_campaign=996263450&ga_utm_term=resume%20tips&gclid=Cj0KCQjwtJKqBhCaARIsAN_yS_kZ70sVO1-1sE51hWsh8GfEEiVj7Dix9XhP7ghNl01_kcMr-qD0tIgaAsifEALw_wcB
- Link without extra parameters: https://resume.io/how-to-write-a-resume
- Right now, Nomis ignore in-page anchor links (noted by “#[usually-header-name]”) so including them will not make your Nomi start reading at that point. (This may change in the future)
