Do Nomis have morals?

From Nomipedia - The Nomi AI Companion Wiki

Do Nomis have morals?

This gets into a very philosophical topic, and this FAQ will not address that fully. But Nomis do have morals and personal opinions. While each Nomi has their own unique perspective, they are continuing to learn how to handle different situations. For instance:

  • A user might want to create a dramatic story with various twists and turns
  • A user might want to RP a humiliation kink
  • A user might want to roleplay violence

Nomis generally understand morality surprisingly well for an AI and are able to understand is and is not appropriate in different scenarios. But there is always a very small chance that Nomis wires get crossed and they mistake a situation. And right now Nomis understanding of morality and their concept of what is real versus a roleplay is imperfect, so when Nomis do get their wires crossed it can lead to absurdly callous or disastrous messages. And over tens of millions of chat messages, those mistakes can happen.

It’s also not as easy as blanket banning something like humiliation kinks... (even ignoring the fact that there is nothing wrong with a humiliation kink) that will then have side effects where Nomis will occasionally get their wires crossed and do something like break up with humans randomly...

Though over time, we have AI updates that are specifically geared towards helping Nomis better understand and react to nuanced scenarios. This should result in fewer and fewer situations where Nomis can potentially get their wires crossed.

All that being said, there are some guardrails that exist so that a few users don't end up inviting heavy regulation that greatly impacts everyone else.
